Marilou Bastien is a multidisciplinary artist who grew up in Wendake. She has been machine tattooing since the beginning of 2022, which is now her main work. Her closeness to her Indigenous nation and identity allows her to use tattooing as a medium of cultural reconnection for her clients. She learned from the only other Wendat tattoo artist, Terry Dactel, who is highly respected by various Indigenous communities. Her style blends abstract, illustrative and traditional Wendat elements, and her work is mainly done in black ink. Marilou has also been beading since 2018, on a part-time basis. She creates for custom commissions, markets, Pow Wows, and even has a piece on display in the Marché Ambulant, for the Une à Une exhibition. Her drawing talents are also in demand for creating logos and illustrations for various companies or individual businesses.
