Waskapitan: Celebrating Indigenous Peoples

The Centre d'amitié autochtone de Lanaudière is a community organization whose mission is to improve the living conditions of Indigenous people, develop their leadership, and celebrate their cultures. To this end, the Centre offers programs, services, and activities for the Indigenous community living in or passing through the Lanaudière region. The CAAL carries out its work in a spirit of reconciliation, while strengthening the agency of its members. Each year on June 21st, in the heart of the city of Joliette, Waskapitan brings together thousands of people in a vibrant, inclusive, and deeply human atmosphere. In the Atikamekw language, Waskapitan means "let us come together" — a call to meeting, dialogue, and mutual respect between peoples. This is precisely what the event offers: a living space where cultures, knowledge, and communities converge. Our new centre, opening in January 2027, will include a tourism offering featuring a cultural space with an Indigenous art exhibition. Stay tuned to discover the full range of tourism services from the CAAL!
