Immersion in the Heart of Cree Territory

Nibiischii National Park is located in the heart of Québec’s boreal forest and spans more than 12,000 km², making it one of the largest protected areas in the province. Managed by the Cree Nation of Mistissini, the park brings together the beauty of untouched nature and the richness of Cree culture.

The territory is shaped by major lakes such as Lake Mistassini, the largest natural lake in Québec, and Lake Albanel. It is crossed by powerful rivers, including the Témiscamie and the Rupert, and bordered by the Otish Mountains, located at the geographic centre of the province.

Visitors will discover a wide variety of landscapes, ranging from dense boreal forests to taiga and tundra. The park is home to rare plants and animals, including the boreal woodland caribou, as well as more than 500 plant species. It also protects archaeological, traditional, and heritage sites of great importance, including Wapushakamikw, known as the “White Hill.”

For outdoor enthusiasts, the park offers canoeing, kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, and cultural experiences guided by Cree knowledge. The Mistissini Welcome Centre is the main entry point for many visitors, offering camping, accommodations, and activities that foster a deep connection with nature and Cree heritage.
